Compared to UO more times than $2 hookers hide from Bill on any given night, but in a very modern MMO style... same skill based system.. World based PvP...
This article should get your spirits up about an MMO that can hold your attention for a little while!

http://www.womengamers.com/interviews/darkfall.php
I found it while looking for a story to compile, however yeah, unless I?m going to Greece.. I think this story tops anything I could do just short of plagiarism...

Man don't let any article set get you down. Remember every article has the author's personal spin period. You stick to the facts you know and still come up with a different conclusion.

Not to mention you have your own wealth of MMO experience to draw upon. I mean everything ALWAYS sounds cool when the developers talk about it, thats why you can chuck in your own opinions, we are subjective... not objective. I can tell you right now, no game has PvP balance.

The most balance MMO on the market would be GuildWars and thats because the teams are set at equal members otherwise numerical, character class, and/or game mechanics imbalance always throws itself in.

Not to mention we at GM have no need to be PC when it comes to previews or reviews.

I can tell you right now this game is loaded to be exploited and craptacular from its onset... it way TOO much to try and accomplish with thier limited personnel and funds, and all MMO's come down to money, the longer that game is in development the more money the Publisher loses. With all the 'features' they want there is no way that game will come out the way they have hyped it up...

I mean think of other such mega hype games, Shadow Bane anyone.

Needless to say if you going do an article do it irregardless of whatever else is out there... Hell, every article that is placed here is something that someone  somewhere has already written.... we just do it better and with more pizazz.

Whether or not the game will be crapalicious or not, I have to hold out faith because it's the ONLY game in the making that has EVERYTHING I want in an MMO.  So I will hope that it comes out as described, I mean what else do I have to root for?  As far as I know there are no plans for releasing a starcraft MMO.

I do agree that they are very ambitious and that could be their pitfall, however as stated earlier I have to reserve my final opinion on the game till release (or if I get in beta).  I mean it represents everything I have ever wanted in a PVP game, it reminds me of UO but with some better changes (or atleast according to their own descriptions/feature list).  So until they release something crappy, I'll hope on the spectacular.

There it is, The Dev hath spoken.

Quoted from the Darkfall Homepage:

"We give you a world full of options, choices, and possibilities, and the ability to shape and define your game environment. Politics, diplomacy, trade agreements, and even player defined legal systems, are all supported by the game.

Darkfall places no restrictions on player interaction, so there are no developer imposed safe zones, no realms, factions, PvP zones, or any other roadblocks that limit your game. Anyone can fight anyone, anywhere as long as they are willing to face the consequences - in the form of Darkfall’s alignment system.

You can enjoy easy communication with your friends, even while outside the game. Darkfall’s Communication interface includes in-game message and trade boards, an IRC-style chat system, instant messaging, voice support, and even mobile phone SMS messaging.

In Darkfall, advanced clan management tools take care of the tedious and repetitive tasks, allowing you to focus on the real challenges (and the fun) associated with clan leadership.

Trade your hard earned items using Darkfall’s secure trade interface and in-game trade boards."

SMS to your cell... Voice support... While at work you can log into an IRC like chatroom and talk with your clan... it's sick... just sick...

It's actually 5 seconds.  It's hard to really get a good look on anything.  Though I thought I saw the blades of grass swaying in the wind.

Yeah it was swaying in the wind. Thats the only semi hi gfx setting movie they have. Im not totaly sure what the cap will be but acording to the Dev's all the screenshots they have been taking so far are in low res with all settings turned down. So you might need a beefy setup on your end to turn everything up. I might need to get an upgrade on this video card in my laptop if I'm going to play with it all looking pretty.
Some things I am worried about is since I've been playing Matrix Online a pretty action based MMO is that they will have problems with the net code. CoH/CoV is action based with ranged attacks but its not colision based. It's just hit or miss based. In Darkfall if you miss your target and a friend is standing on the other side of your target... well.. here is an example:
You get a target and put it up on a tree, and your praticing shooting at the target. little timmy is walking behind your target on the tree and just as he comes out on the other side you fire. Oh boy look out little timmy because your about to get an arrow in your buttox and your daddy is going to have to explain to mommy how he shot you in the hiney...

So yeah I had to give that scenario even if you did already understand. But for that kind of net code its goign to take mad math skills and loads of time. Not to mention the processor pull that will cause for each ranged shot. You know it wont be on the client side due to packet filter freaks. Someone would make a "perfect shot" hack and have every script kiddy this side of the world using it. So on server side, I can see a cluster server specificly for just combat mathmatics.
