Space... its big... its dark...
And in Genesis Rising its gonna get bloody. Capitalizing on the space genre RTS made popular by such series as Homeworld, the Metamorf Team is adding a whole new layer of innovation.
Utilizing a system of unit customization never before seen Genesis Rising plans to break the static trend of RTS games and implement a dynamic battle front that well make each single-player mission and multi-player map a unique and satisfying adventure.
I got a chance to chat with the members of the Metamorf Team lets see what they had to say:
I am huge fan of sci-fi/starship rts games. What new innovations will Genesis Rising introduce us to?
We are heading towards new ground with this one. It features living ships that mutate after feasting on enemy carcasses. Blood is the new currency in the game.
I look at the game's graphics and can't help but draw comparisons to the Homeworld series, what new functions and add-on's will make GR standard out from the RTS crowd.
It does look like Homeworld at first, but the gameplay is different. In Genesis Rising the players micromanage their units and develop their ships like characters in RPG games. The entire fleet is basically the players own design. It is a grotesque space dwelling armada set on conquering every living thing. A large variety of weapons and tactics give the player numerous possibilities. Plus, the only resource blood is used for repairing ships, buying new stuff and creating genes.
Which innovations added to GR are you most anxious to receive user feedback on?
The ability to create your own units and the freedom it adds to the RTS gameplay. We want to know what amazing creations and strategies the players come up with. Hopefully, the players will enjoy the freedom we provided for them.
What has been the most rewarding part of designing the GS universe and storyline?
We had a chance to break the rules in both design and storytelling. Humans are the violent dictators in this one. Aliens are the oppressed. Plus you get to see giant organic spaceships blow up in space and spread hectoliters of blood all over. It’s a rewarding sight.
Multiplayer is giving extensive attention in GS. How will Multiplayer broaden and expand the gameplay experience?
The multiplayer is where the game stands out, because no two matches are alike. The players can never know what the opponent has in store for them because of the gene based fleet upgrades. Everyone can do anything. The battles can last for hours, because the players can mutate their ships mid battle and replenish them from enemy carcasses.
What has been the development teams biggest obstacle in designing GR?
Designing the missions where we don’t know what kind of a fleet the player will have at one point. Because the players carry and develop their fleet from level to level, we didn’t know what to expect. A lot of balancing went into this one.
What statement would you wish to release to RTS players for why they should play GR?
Its different. Its bloody. We broke rules. If you want a change of pace, try this one.
I'll end with the standard GM question: If there was anything about GR you could change what would it be?
We would add more blood and guts next time. There is always room for more gore!
