So i was playing BattleField 2 last night and as I watching myself getting slaughtered, I began to think what the hell was going on? Was I shooting less accurately? Was I getting spawn camped? Negative on both counts... So I began to think about tertiary factors that was influencing my play and then it dawned on me.. Listening to Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson singing "Beauty and Beast" was definately wreaking havoc on my FPS game flow. This led to a deeper thought process within me to determine which musical choices truly influenced my gaming mechanics. With this information in mind I began a soul searching analysis of my playlist and began sorting my songs in order to determine my
Top 10 FPS/Shooter Songs(in no particular order): 10. Die Mutha Fuckas - Ghetto Boys - this song was immortalized in "Office Space", when a group of IT Professionals used extreme prejudice to dispatch a hostage Fax machine. The anger and wrath contain within this song has served me very well when in the violent furballs which are trademarks of any good FPS. 9. Blade Techno Opener - Darude - Ok the first Blade movie was a mild surprise in the entertainment category, however since i was in Orlando my coworkers were giving this song ample Air time especially during our nightly Unreal Tournament forays. Its a long song with a steady campy beat that works for TDM and DM maps. 8. Halcyon & On & On - Orbital This was one of my first true FPS songs. I was at Clemson University and some new 3D shooter called Quake was making its introduction. Insert into this equation, state of the art Gateway Pentium 233 workstations with 17" monitors and you had circa 1996 gaming nirvana. This song falls into my zen mode of FPS playing. Its that whole... "there is no spoon" type deal that got me comfortably numb through my first foray into OpenGL and DirectX based FPS gaming. 6. Si Senor - Control Machete - Ok so this song is based on a crappy Levi jeans commercial and its all in spanish.. but screw it. When i was playing R-Type Delta its helped get me past that stupid rail based level. And as anyone who is a veteran of the R-Type series, of hellacious shooters, can tell you any help you can get is appreciated. 5. Smack my Bitch Up - Prodigy - Ok another movie played bubble gum techno song, I think the final icing on making me hate this song was in "Charlie's Angels". However, like any other infectious song, it gets me through fierce fire fights and keeps my pimp hand at the ready, therefore it remains in circulation and makes my list. 4. Back in Black - AC/DC - Ah good ol Classic Rock. (wait am I so old this is 'classic'). Yep the oldies are definately some of the best songs for good ol FPS thrashing. Its almost like having your own theme music. 3. All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix - No FPS, in my world, is complete without a Jimi Hendrix title in the mix. Now anyone who has watched my play can tell you, without a doubt, I am the worst sniper in existance but gosh darnit if I had to sneak around with a Bolt Action or Sniper Rifle in Call of Duty of any other World War II / Vietname Era FPS this was my anthem. 2. Dragula / SuperBeast - Rob Zombie - Ah Rob Zombie .... better known to me for making that craptacular movie "House of a 1000 Corpses". My God that was 135 minutes of my life gone for f'king ever. Luckily he makes the list due to Dragula and SuperBeast. Which together combine for a potent adrenaline boost for my Shooter and FPS action games. 1. Du Hast - Rammstein - Who the hell is this guy... what the hell is he saying... I will never know these things and actually I hope I never find out. I am going assume its some kinda German industrial group, But all I know it causes my ears to bleed when ultra bass is activated on my head set. So I will take it.. I swear the song could be about loving puppies and kittens on a sunny day and I would still want to RPG some poor bastard. |
