It was time to allow the youth over to Musketeer lair for some mad game madness. Of course, the Ferret has his offspring on hand for the teenagers and young adults who decided to come to the death trap.Of course, GameCube is the platform of choice only because it's built for four-players and has decent four-player games. Enter the 8 year-old Star Fox: Assault master. The 8 year-old protegy and progeny of the Old Ferret held his own against the college-age in Super Smash Brothers Melee , even though a couple of the players had years of experience on him. But then the game switch to the master's domain, a tactical vehicle combat simulation with which he strikes fear into the hearts of all who face him. It was time for Star Fox: Assault.

It's bad when they celebrate when he doesn't win. It's even worse when they put their heads down when he sweeps them all 3-0-0-0. That's right, even with the demon launcher against him, he still manages to finish them off before anyone else can get a single kill. It seems the sweep happens more often than the loss. And there are plenty of times when someone jumps out to 2 kills and he has none. But in a few short blasts from his Landmaster, the score is tied and he goes on to win, usually head-to-head, mano-a-mano, against the one who racked up the first two kills in the first place. The eight year old conquers those over 10 years his elder.

So what's the point of this ferret wisdom? Why this: beware the kid in the game store with the controller. You know which one I'm talking about. The one who goes there day in and day out. The one who is always there. The one who plays every new game that comes out at those free consoles in the store. Beware the kid who knows every cheat code, every new short cut, every new technique.

But that's not the only kid you've got to be aware. Beware the kid of the long-time gamer. Beware the kid whose father buys the consoles or decks out his desktop system and the games and encourages his boys to liquify the opposition. My eight year-old is this kid. And he just broke out Super Mario Strikers. The screaming for mercy has begun anew.
