ImageOk I jacked this from The Taco Prophet who probably ripped it from someone else:

I must drink beer. Beer is the mindkiller. Beer is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my beer. I will permit it to pass over me and through me and when it has gone I will turn the inner eye to see its path. When the beer has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Now on to Gears of War

Christmas came early in the House of Clipsco.

I started playing Gears of War and, dammit, I hate it when the outside hype is correct. The game is phenomenally fun. The firefights are intense, tactical cover and maintaining optimal firing solutions is very important and the gore factor is extreme. Arcs of fire and terrain mean the difference between life and death. When your squadmates scream "INCOMING!" you will have a new appreciation for the term "TAKE COVER!" Why? Simply stated, being caught out in the open means your dead, period.

The games storyline isn't a Martin Scorsese classic, but the graphical detail and personalities of your squad members and other NPC's more than make up for it. The game environment borrows elements from movies such as Aliens, Starship Troopers, and Pitch Black, to make a truly scenic and visceral gaming experience.

The games 3rd person camera is stable and doesn't wander, unfortunately, the squad AI definately has its share of quirks, that while individually innocuous can over time add up to become an aggravation. The enemy AI is relatively inspiring, as your foes will react smartly to incursions with lethal force and a strategic economy of motion.

I guess the only real complaint I can state with the graphics are that while the levels are detailed they are not awe inspiring. You will have have seen every genre of FPS map regurgitated in this game to one extent of another.

I have always felt whats the point of have a Super Star Destroyer class gaming graphics system if the only colors it is going to show are greys, blacks and muddy earth tones.

Irregardless much Dos Equis was consumed. And while my deathcount hit stratospheric levels, I must say, using the chainsaw never gets old... ever.

In conclusion if you own a single 3rd person shooter for the XBox 360 it should definately be Gears of War. However, I am still on the fence as to if this is THE game for XBox 360. Final Fantasy VII MADE you buy the PlayStation. Halo MADE you buy the Xbox. Gears of War while highly enjoyable falls just short of "Buy the System" greatness.

And yea that $60.00 price tag definately has something to do with it.
